You are less suitable if:
As a cutting machine operator, you will produce precision metal components using processes such as turning, milling, grinding or drilling. You will usually work with computer-aided machines and production systems. Depending on the company, cutting machine operators produce individual parts, prototypes or large series. The components are used in aircraft construction, the automotive industry and many other branches of industry. Setting up, maintaining and repairing machines is just as much a part of a cutting machine operator's job as monitoring machining processes.
You can definitely score points in this apprenticeship with good grades in physics. Good maths skills and knowledge of technology and crafts can also be helpful when looking for an apprenticeship. But even without good grad es in these subjects, you still have a good chance of finding an apprenticeship as a cutting machine operator. The most important prerequisite for the job is having the right strengths. If you are skilful with your hands, can work carefully and are willing to learn, you should definitely give it a try with an application!
In this skilled trade, you will typically work in a workshop, production hall or craft business. As a cutting machine operator, you will usually work in shifts. If, for example, machines have to be set up or maintenance work has to be carried out, this profession can be physically demanding.
But not all cutting machine operators are the same. Your working environment can look very different, depending on the training company and the area in which you work. In a small workshop, you will work in a small team, whereas in larger companies you will work in production and usually in large production halls. You should therefore think carefully about which training company and which future field of work suits you best.
At the training company, you will learn how to assess the properties of materials and select them according to their characteristics. You will learn how to check, maintain and service equipment. Of course, you will also learn how to ensure the functionality of machine tools in order to manufacture components and workpieces.
