Cutting machine operator (m/f/d)

Machining mechanic is a recognised training occupation that is regulated by a dual training system in industry and the skilled trades. Here is some important information about this profession:

• Duration of training: Training as a cutting machine operator takes 3.5 years.
• Area of responsibility: Machining mechanics manufacture components for machines, engines or turbines. They usually work with CNC-controlled turning, milling and grinding machines. Their tasks include:
• Entering manufacturing parameters into the machines or retrieving programmes from the machine memory.
• Selecting tools, clamping metal blanks and aligning workpieces.
• Monitoring machining processes and checking dimensions and surface quality.
• Troubleshooting according to defined test procedures.
• Regular inspection and maintenance of the machines.
• Work locations: Machining mechanics work in workshops or factory halls as well as in workshops.

Requirements:

• Care and a sense of responsibility when setting up cutting machines and working with information technology systems.
• Dexterity and hand-eye coordination when turning, milling and grinding metal.
• Observation accuracy when monitoring the machining process.
• Technical understanding of adjustment, maintenance and servicing work.
• Good physical condition for replacing heavy components.
• School-leaving certificate: No specific school education is required by law, but companies predominantly employ trainees with an intermediate school-leaving certificate.
